In many private family law cases involving children, the court expects applicants to consider mediation before making a Family Court Application

This is usually done through a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM).

 

  • Some urgent or safety-related cases are exceptions.
  • Whether mediation applies depends on individual circumstances.

  • Apply for orders about where a child lives, who they spend time with, and related matters.

  • Provide information about harm or domestic abuse in children proceedings.
  • May be submitted alongside certain child arrangements applications.

C79 — Enforcement of Child Arrangements Order

  • Make applications in ongoing Family Court cases.

  • Apply for a financial order after divorce, dissolution, or separation.

  • Apply for a reduction or exemption from court fees.
  • Used across many court and tribunal applications, including Family Court.
